Nos gustaría agradecer al personal del Community School y particularmente a Mr Kitchen por las actividades preparadas para el encuentro de sus estudiantes de español con nuestros estudiantes de inglés. Hemos pasado una fantástica tarde y lo más importante ha sido el intercambio cultural de los dos grupos. ¡Nos vemos el año que viene!
We would like to thank the Community School staff, particularly Mr Kitchen, for the activities organized with their students in Spanish and ours in English. We have spent a fantastic afternoon. It’s been an enriching cultural experience for both groups. We will see you again next year!
El convivir con una familia anfitriona es una experiencia cultural muy enriquecedora. Se convive e intercambian costumbres como la comida. Nuestros alumnos que han demostrado sus dotes culinarias cocinado paellas y tortilla de patatas para sus familias. ¡Seguro que han dejado el listón alto!
Living with a host family is a rewarding cultural experience. Not only do students and families live together, but they also share customs such as food. Our students have shown their cooking knowledge by making paellas and Spanish omelettes. I hope they have set the bar high!
Miércoles 19 Julio / Wednesday 19th July
Liverpool es una ciudad marítima en el noroeste de Inglaterra, donde el río Mersey se une con el mar de Irlanda. Fue un puerto clave para el comercio y la migración desde el siglo XVIII hasta comienzos del siglo XX, y también es famosa por ser la cuna de Los Beatles. Tuvimos la oportunidad de hacer un minicrucero por el río en un ferri. Los ferris cruzan el litoral, donde los icónicos edificios mercantiles conocidos como las “Tres Gracias” (Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building y el Edificio del Puerto de Liverpool) se ubican en el sector del Pier Head.
Hemos visitado también El Museo Marítimo y el Internacional de la Esclavitud, donde hemos podido ver la historia oculta del Titanic y la historia y el legado de la trata transatlántica de esclavos.
Y por supuesto cómo no pasarnos por The Cavern. The Cavern Club, es el disco pub donde empezaron a tocar los Beatles, está en el número 10 de Mathew Street en Liverpool. Abrió el 16 de enero de 1957 como un club de jazz y mas tarde a finales de los 50 y principios de los 60 se convirtió en un centro de actuaciones de rock and roll.
Liverpool is a maritime mercantile city, located at the tidal mouth of the river Mersey where it meets the Irish Sea. It became the major port for the mass movement of commerce and emigrants from the 18TH to the 20th century. Liverpool was also the city that honed the Beatles sound. We also had the opportunity to make a mini cruise by the river. The ferris cross the river, where we could see the iconic merchant buildings known as ‘Three Graces” (Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building).
We have also visited es the Maritime Museum and the International Slavery gallery. We’ve learned about the hidden history of the Titanic and the history of slavery in Liverpool.
And of course, we could not leave Liverpool without visiting the Cavern. The Cavern Club nightclub birthplace of the Beatles is a nightclub at 10 Mathew Street, in Liverpool. It opened on 16 January 1957 as a jazz club, later becoming a rock and roll scene centre in Liverpool in the late 50s and early 1960s.
Viernes 21 de Julio – Examen de Trinity / Friday 21st July – Trinity Exam day.
Y por fin llegó el día del examen de Trinity. Robert Dale y Judith Barrett han sido nuestros examinadores. Los comentarios que nos han hecho han sido muy positivos aunque por la normativa de Trinity no nos han podido decir las notas, que seguramente las tendremos en los próximos días.
Felicidades a todos nuestros alumnos por el gran esfuerzo que han realizado en este curso. Os deseamos que sigáis persiguiendo vuestros sueños y que luchéis por un futuro brillante y esperamos que la experiencia de este mes en Buxton haya sido muy positiva.
Finally, the Trinity exam day. Robert Dale and Judith Barret have been our examiners. They have given us positive feedback, although they cannot tell us the final results. We would know them in a few days.
We would like to congratulate our students for their effort they have done in this course. We wish you go on pursuing your dreams and fight for a brilliant future. We hope this month in Buxton had been a very positive experience for you all.
